Three new faces drafted in Burkina Faso bound side
BY AGNES MAKHANDIA/ Three new players have been drafted into the 15-member squad that departs tomorrow night for 38th edition of the Africa handball Club Championship starting on Friday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The three players are newly-signed Anna Venessa from Germany, left back Vallarie Adhiambo and right winger Alexina Ambani. Speaking at Nyayo Stadium yesterday after the morning training session, coach Jack Ochieng said the three players have been impressive. Ochieng said the remaining 12 players have featured in the previous events and with a mix of the newcomers and regulars, the side should be able to ruffle few feathers in the event, which ends on October 27. Nairobi Water have been drawn in Pool B alongside Primero (Angola), TKC (Cameroon) and Band ama HBU (Cote d’ Ivoire) .
Commenting on the pooling, Ochieng, said he was unfazed but was quick to single out Primero, who he said most of their players were part of the national team that featured in the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil last August.
Squad: Winnie Miyenda, Modesta Auma, Eunice Oginga, Melvin Akinyi, Faith Mukhala, Gladys Chilo, Brenda Ariviza, Judy Augo, Magdaline Muthoni, Brenda Musambai, Elizabeth Kemei, Anna Vanessa, Mitchelle Adhiambo, Valarie Adhiambo and Alexina Ambani.
