Indomitable Lionesses awaited tonight ahead of tomorrow’s friendly with Harambee Starlets
Cameroon national women’s team are set to arrive tonight ahead for their friendly against national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets tomorrow at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani.
Starlets, who were earlier scheduled to arrive yesterday, will now land today from Morocco after their flight was cancelled.
The Kenyan side, who were away in the Morocco for a series of friendlies, recorded two impressive wins against Wydad Casablanca, whom they beat 8-1 and Chabab Atlas Khenifra (CAK), who succumbed to a 6-1 thrashing at the Moroccan Football Association headquarters ground.
Confirming the new development, Football Kenya Federation ( FKF) communication officer Barry Otieno, said the federation is in talks with the local agent to ensure the team arrive early ahead of tomorrow’s friendly.
“Starlets should have been in country today (Thursday) but the flight was cancelled due to logistical problems,” said Otieno.
“The Moroccan airline wanted to reschedule the flight to 4pm their time —meaning they could have arrived here on Saturday at 2pm—some two hours to the game and that’s why we are making local arrangement with the local agent for the team to arrive here tomorrow (Friday) to prepare for the friendly match.”
After tomorrow’s clash, the national team will host Egypt six days later for another friendly before they jet out for a return leg against hosts Cameroon on November 5.
The team is using the friendly matches as a build up for the forthcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations final to be staged in the city of Limbe, Cameroon.
The side coached by David Ouma, has been drawn in Pool ‘B’ alongside title holders Nigeria, Ghana and Mali in the AWCON set for November 19 - December 3.
Meanwhile, after the friendly match against Starlets, Cameroon are set to visit the newly crowned Cecafa champions Tanzania for another friendly match.
Cameroon recently won 1-0 against Mali in a two-legged fixture.
