Speaker approves formation of caucus for MPs from coffee and tea regions
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has approved a request by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria to form a caucus of legislators to champion the interests of coffee and tea farmers.
In a letter to Kuria, Muturi yesterday said, “You may proceed to champion the objectives of the caucus, recruit members and commence operations for the caucus.”
Kuria and 14 other MPs said the Cof- fee and Tea Parliamentary Association would help the country revive the coffee and tea sectors.
“Cotepa envisions vibrant, growing, profitable and sustainable coffee and tea sectors which cumulatively bring in Kenya’s biggest foreign income,” he said.
Muturi said he saw no reason not to allow the formation of the caucus.
Farmers have complained about low coffee prices.
