Reps may increase Kilifi disaster relief budget to Sh150m
Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi (pictured) has called MCAs for a special sitting tomorrow to discuss the famine that has affected 300,000 residents.
Top on the agenda is increasing the budget allocation for disaster relief from Sh80 million to Sh150 million. The Meteorological department has announced that the six-month drought will continue for sometime.
“We need an immediate response to increase the allocation for relief so that no one in Kilifi dies of hunger,” Kingi said.
He said his government is committed to finding a long-lasting solution by giving farmers input and irrigation machines. Kingi said this will help them to stop relying on relief food, which is never enough.
Last week, it was announced that 1.3 million Kenyans countrywide face starvation. Northeastern and Coast are the worst hit.
