Driver held after woman robbed in matatu
A matatu driver believed to have colluded with thugs to drug and rob passengers will be detained for 10 days. Nairobi senior resident magistrate H Onkwani yesterday ordered that Patrick Thuku be detained at Kilimani police station for investigations. Police had requested to hold him for 14 days. Thuku was arrested on Sunday after Kenyans publicised the robbery on social media. They posted photos of the matatu and the driver. A woman passenger was allegedly robbed in the matatu. According to a police affi- davit, Thuku is believed to have actively participated in the robbery. The court was told the investigations are complex, hence the need for more time because other suspects are still at large. Investigating officer Philip Mwangi said the victim lost an iPhone 6, ATM card, an ID and Sh4,000 in cash. She took photos of the suspects using another phone she had. The woman said she noticed two other female passengers who appeared to have been drugged and were non-responsive.
