Driver held af­ter wo­man robbed in matatu

A matatu driver be­lieved to have col­luded with thugs to drug and rob pas­sen­gers will be de­tained for 10 days. Nairobi se­nior res­i­dent mag­is­trate H Onkwani yes­ter­day or­dered that Pa­trick Thuku be de­tained at Kil­i­mani po­lice sta­tion for in­ves­ti­ga­tions. Po­lice had re­quested to hold him for 14 days. Thuku was ar­rested on Sun­day af­ter Kenyans pub­li­cised the rob­bery on so­cial me­dia. They posted photos of the matatu and the driver. A wo­man pas­sen­ger was al­legedly robbed in the matatu. Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice affi- davit, Thuku is be­lieved to have ac­tively par­tic­i­pated in the rob­bery. The court was told the in­ves­ti­ga­tions are com­plex, hence the need for more time be­cause other sus­pects are still at large. In­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer Philip Mwangi said the vic­tim lost an iPhone 6, ATM card, an ID and Sh4,000 in cash. She took photos of the sus­pects us­ing an­other phone she had. The wo­man said she no­ticed two other fe­male pas­sen­gers who ap­peared to have been drugged and were non-re­spon­sive.
