Urithi Hous­ing in Sh100m fish project deal

Urithi Hous­ing Co­op­er­a­tive has part­nered with Small and Medium Re­source Cen­tre in a Sh100 mil­lion fish-keep­ing busi­ness. The project, to be funded through Urithi mem­bers’ con­tri­bu­tions and its fi­nan­cial arm Urithi Pre­mier Sacco, will set up 150 fish ponds in Maragua, Mu­rang’a county, to ac­com­mo­date more than 5,000 fish species. “We seek to em­power mem­bers and di­ver­sify their rev­enue streams,” said Sa­muel Maina, Urithi Hous­ing Co-op­er­a­tive So­ci­ety chair­man in an in­ter­view. The deal, signed at the week­end, will see the Kil­imo Bi­ashara arm of SME Re­source Cen­tre pro­vide tech­ni­cal sup­port, in­sur­ance ser­vices, fish breeds and get market for the fish, as well as share the rev­enues from the busi­ness ven­ture. The project will sit on 10 acres ac­quired by Urithi Sacco.
