Urithi Housing in Sh100m fish project deal
Urithi Housing Cooperative has partnered with Small and Medium Resource Centre in a Sh100 million fish-keeping business. The project, to be funded through Urithi members’ contributions and its financial arm Urithi Premier Sacco, will set up 150 fish ponds in Maragua, Murang’a county, to accommodate more than 5,000 fish species. “We seek to empower members and diversify their revenue streams,” said Samuel Maina, Urithi Housing Co-operative Society chairman in an interview. The deal, signed at the weekend, will see the Kilimo Biashara arm of SME Resource Centre provide technical support, insurance services, fish breeds and get market for the fish, as well as share the revenues from the business venture. The project will sit on 10 acres acquired by Urithi Sacco.
