Activist Okiya Omtatah wants Employment and Labour Relations Court judge Monica Mbaru removed from office for alleged gross misconduct and misbehaviour. He filed a petition before the Judicial Service Commission yesterday, accusing Mbaru of abusing her office by issuing irregular orders in favour of former Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Olive Mugenda. Omtatah told the JSC Mbaru, without hearing all parties, ordered KU to pay Mugenda an exorbitant retirement package of Sh100 million without following due process. He said the orders were meant to return a favour to Mugenda, who a few days before she left office employed Mbaru’s husband Henry Mwangi. She facilitated his transfer from Kitui to the main campus on Thika Road. The activist said Mugenda had irregularly hired Mwangi as a lecturer at the university’s Kitui’s campus.
