MPs question former bank driver suspected of sharing Sh791m NYS loot
MPs yesterday questioned how a mere driver turned into an overnight millionaire at the height of the Sh791 million National Youth Service heist.
Members of the Public Accounts Committee asked how John Kago, a suspended Kenya Commercial Bank driver, owns expensive property in Nairobi and a fleet of high-end vehicles. Kago denied owning the millions of shillings wired into his account by NYS suspects Josephine Kabura and Ben Gethi. MPs confronted Kago with a trail of transactions worth Sh346 million wired through his account between January and April 2015.
Kago received Sh130 million from Gethi and Sh156 from Kabura through his account at KCB and Family Bank.
However, he acknowledged only receiving Sh60 million from Kabura as ‘soft-loan’ to expand his business.
