A video clip in which Kiambu Governor William Kabogo was captured allegedly attacking Cord leader Raila Odinga last October was played in court yesterday.

The three-minute footage was played after city magistrate Martha Mutuku allowed Dr Isaiah Ndung’u, a linguistics expert from the University of Nairobi, to produce it as evidence.

Kabogo is seen addressing a crowd in Thika Stadium in Kikuyu and Kiswahili. Ndung’u said he was requested by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to translate the governor’s speech and after doing so, he deemed it inciting.

“The words were directed to the media to go and inform another person,” he said. Ndung’u was, however, asked to explain the lack of sync in his translation of a speech that eventually caused Kabogo to be charged.
