Machakos majority leader saved
Political Parties Disputes Resolution Tribunal issues interim injunction suspending resolution by Cord MCAs to remove Mwonga and majority whip Timothy Kilonzo
The Political Parties Disputes Resolution Tribunal has reinstated Masinga Central MCA Joshua Mwonga as Machakos majority leader.
Muvuti MCA Timothy Kilonzo has also been reinstated as majority whip, pending determination of an application filed before the tribunal.
Cord MCAs removed Mwonga on Tuesday, accusing him of arrogance and using his position to intimidate them, allegations he denied.
“I have not been removed because of poor performance, but for refusing to sign for the impeachment of Governor [Alfred] Mutua,” he said.
Mwonga said there are plans to sack the governor but the motion is yet to be presented before the House Business Committee for balloting.
In orders communicated to the assembly by speaker Bernard Mung’ata on Wednesday evening, the tribunal granted an interim injunction suspending the MCAs’ resolution.
Seventeen out of 32 MCAs signed for the removal of Mwonga and Kilonzo, who was accused of disloyalty.
Mwonga was replaced with Alexander Kathinzi (Kivaa), while Gideon Kavuu of Mumbuni North replaced Kilonzo.
