Harmonise our pay or we will call a nationwide strike, says nurses’ union

The Star (Kenya) - - Counties -

The Kenya National Union of Nurses wants the county governments to harmonise the salaries and allowances of health workers.

Union chairman John Bii and secretary general Seth Panyako urged the counties to guarantee payment of nurses’ salaries on time as outlined in the Employment Act 2007. The two addressed the press at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu town on Saturday.

The union said workers seconded from the national government and those who served in the now-defunct councils should be treated equally.

Bii and Panyako threatened to call a nationwide strike if the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, and the county and national governments do not harmonise pay. The union also demanded the implementation of the new house allowance in line with SRC ‘s 2014 circular.
