Alex Obanda produced a fine display of Twenty 20 batting on Saturday to guide Swamibapa to a six-wicket victory over arch-rivals Kanbis and lead his side into the finals of the Harilal Shah Memorial tournament.

After the two teams drew their NPCA league matches, fans had prepared for a nail biting semifinal of the third edition and were not disappointed-thanks to Obanda’s knock and Kanbis brutality on Swamibapa’s bowling attack.

Having elected to bat, Kanbis showed no mercy racing to 66 for in six overs before finally ending on 170 for 7.

But if the batting of Kanbis top order batsmen was anything that could have made the capacity crowd at Sikh Union rise off their seats, then Obanda’s attack. Bowler left the seats unoccupied throughout Swamibapa’s inning.

Obanda scored a match winning 89 not out off 57 balls to lead his side to the final with ten balls to spare.

With the target of 171 looking bigger, Swamibapa opted to open with Nehemiah Odhiambo and Obanda.

With two wickets down and two of their main batsmen in the format back in the pavilion, Obanda took the load of seeing Swamibapa closer to victory if not winning on himself and quickly moved his tally to 20 runs in just nine balls.
