The National Land Commission has repossessed more than 600 acres of public land illegally acquired in Kisumu town . Chairman Muhammad Swazuri said the land belonged to various government ministries.

He said the commission held a public meeting in Kisumu for three days, that established that prime land had been grabbed from the government.

Swazuri said his commission would visit towns for public hearing and solve long-standing disputes involving developers and the residents.

Speaking in Kapsabet town when he toured the Lands offices, Swazuri said his commission will address border disputes involving Nandi and Kisumu counties that have triggered violence. MPs Julius Meli (Tinderet) and Cornelius Meli (Aldai) said the change of the Nandi escarpment into Nyando is one of the contentious issues.
