Lawyer and client charged with fraud in land transfer
A man and a lawyer have been charged with forging a signature to transfer ownership of land.
The charges state that on June 24, 2011, Earnest Mwaniki was arrested and taken to the Kasarani police station, Nairobi, for forging Paul Ng’ang’a’s signature.
The court heard that Ng’ang’a had agreed to sell his Sh7 million land to Mwaniki and they both signed an agreement in the presence of lawyer Joseph Nzioki, the second accused. Mwaniki paid a deposit of Sh300,000. After two days, Ng’ang’a went to the lawyer’s office, but he wasn’t given the balance of the land price.
He then visited the lands office to do a search and the system indicated that Mwaniki was the owner of the land.
The transfer had been done without his consent, Ng’ang’a said.
He reported the matter to the police.
