Eti­had’s Sh365bn will help ex­pand Africa’s econ­omy

Eti­had Avi­a­tion Group and its eq­uity air­line part­ners will con­trib­ute more than Sh365 bil­lion to the African econ­omy this year, a re­port re­leased by Ox­ford Eco­nomics in­di­cates. The air­line will sup­port up to 425,000 jobs, de­liver a core eco­nomic con­tri­bu­tion of $1.1 bil­lion (about Sh111 bil­lion) and con­trib­ute $2.5 bil­lion (about Sh254 bil­lion ) to the tourism in­dus­try. It is pro­jected Eti­had will sup­port 117,000 jobs through core op­er­a­tions, while tourism con­tri­bu­tions will help sus­tain 308,000 jobs. “Th­ese con­tri­bu­tions to economies in Africa are sub­stan­tial. They are also an in­di­ca­tion of the con­tin­ued in­crease in travel into and out of Africa via our hub in Abu Dhabi, sig­nalling the pos­si­bil­ity for even more growth,” James Ho­gan, pres­i­dent and CEO said.
