Etihad’s Sh365bn will help expand Africa’s economy
Etihad Aviation Group and its equity airline partners will contribute more than Sh365 billion to the African economy this year, a report released by Oxford Economics indicates. The airline will support up to 425,000 jobs, deliver a core economic contribution of $1.1 billion (about Sh111 billion) and contribute $2.5 billion (about Sh254 billion ) to the tourism industry. It is projected Etihad will support 117,000 jobs through core operations, while tourism contributions will help sustain 308,000 jobs. “These contributions to economies in Africa are substantial. They are also an indication of the continued increase in travel into and out of Africa via our hub in Abu Dhabi, signalling the possibility for even more growth,” James Hogan, president and CEO said.
