Nairobi leads with unlicensed MSMEs, shows KNBS survey
The Nairobi government lost Sh11.7 billion in 2015 in revenue due to unpaid licence fees by micro, small and medium enterprises, a report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics shows. The 47 county governments collectively lost Sh87.75 billion. Nairobi topped the list in unpaid licence fees followed by Kakamega, which lost Sh4.5 billion, in a county where 300,400 MSMEs do not have permits. The report shows Mandera had a minimal impact as it has 1,800 licensed MSMEs, while 3,700 are unlicensed. In Nairobi, 782,500 MSMEs do not have trade permits, the Micro, Small and Medium Establishments survey basic report shows.
