Nairobi leads with un­li­censed MSMEs, shows KNBS sur­vey

The Nairobi govern­ment lost Sh11.7 bil­lion in 2015 in rev­enue due to un­paid li­cence fees by mi­cro, small and medium en­ter­prises, a re­port by the Kenya Na­tional Bu­reau of Sta­tis­tics shows. The 47 county gov­ern­ments col­lec­tively lost Sh87.75 bil­lion. Nairobi topped the list in un­paid li­cence fees fol­lowed by Kakamega, which lost Sh4.5 bil­lion, in a county where 300,400 MSMEs do not have per­mits. The re­port shows Man­dera had a min­i­mal im­pact as it has 1,800 li­censed MSMEs, while 3,700 are un­li­censed. In Nairobi, 782,500 MSMEs do not have trade per­mits, the Mi­cro, Small and Medium Es­tab­lish­ments sur­vey ba­sic re­port shows.
