(+) HIGH COURT OVERTURNED COUNCIL’S DECISION
In April, the High Court ruled that the Council of Legal Education has no jurisdiction to accredit or withdraw courses offered at Kenyan universities. The ruling by judge George Odunga quashed the Council’s September 2015 decision that restrained Moi University and others from offering a law degree course. Justice Odunga said the CLE has no jurisdiction on its motion to suspend law courses offered in universities. The court also directed the council be reconstituted within 60 days, failing which it would be deemed to be illegally in office.
