Counties get Sh20bn grant from World Bank to strengthen devolved system
The county governments will access more than Sh20 billion grant from the World Bank starting next month to strengthen the devolved system. The cash was received through the Devolution ministry and it will be run by the Kenya Devolution Programme for Results in the next four years. “KDSP sets out to strengthen core national and county institutions to enhance delivery of devolved services at the county level. The programme has capacity building and performance grants elements,” Devolution PS Mwanamaka Mabruki said. She added that all the counties have voluntarily signed up for the programme. Martin Anyango said the project was born after a needs assessment pointed out gaps in public finance management, human resource and performance management, planning, monitoring and evaluation within counties. He is the programme’s coordinator.
