Coun­ties get Sh20bn grant from World Bank to strengthen de­volved sys­tem

The county gov­ern­ments will ac­cess more than Sh20 bil­lion grant from the World Bank start­ing next month to strengthen the de­volved sys­tem. The cash was re­ceived through the De­vo­lu­tion min­istry and it will be run by the Kenya De­vo­lu­tion Pro­gramme for Re­sults in the next four years. “KDSP sets out to strengthen core na­tional and county in­sti­tu­tions to en­hance de­liv­ery of de­volved ser­vices at the county level. The pro­gramme has ca­pac­ity build­ing and per­for­mance grants el­e­ments,” De­vo­lu­tion PS Mwana­maka Mabruki said. She added that all the coun­ties have vol­un­tar­ily signed up for the pro­gramme. Mar­tin Anyango said the project was born af­ter a needs as­sess­ment pointed out gaps in pub­lic fi­nance man­age­ment, hu­man re­source and per­for­mance man­age­ment, plan­ning, mon­i­tor­ing and eval­u­a­tion within coun­ties. He is the pro­gramme’s co­or­di­na­tor.
