Re­tired cop tes­ti­fies in An­glo Leas­ing case

A re­tired po­lice of­fi­cer told a Nairobi court yes­ter­day that the An­glo Leas­ing con­tracts were above board.

Tes­ti­fy­ing be­fore trial mag­is­trate Martha Mu­tuku, James Ng’ang’a said the pay­ments were made as au­tho­rised. Ng’ang’a said he was in charge of com­mu­ni­ca­tion and he re­tired in 2002 be­fore the con­tract was signed. He said he had no knowl­edge of any ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties at­tached to it.

For­mer Fi­nance min­is­ter David Mwirar­ria, for­mer PS Joseph Ma­gari, for­mer PS David Ony­onka, busi­ness­men Deepak and Rashmi Ka­mani have been charged with a con­spir­acy to de­fraud the gov­ern­ment of 59,688, 250 eu­ros.

The money was al­legedly meant for a sup­pli­ers fi­nanc­ing agree­ment for com­put­er­i­sa­tion of a se­cu­rity, law and or­der sys­tem. They have de­nied the fraud that al­legedly was com­mit­ted be­tween July 2003 and June 2004 in Nairobi.
