Retired cop testifies in Anglo Leasing case
A retired police officer told a Nairobi court yesterday that the Anglo Leasing contracts were above board.
Testifying before trial magistrate Martha Mutuku, James Ng’ang’a said the payments were made as authorised. Ng’ang’a said he was in charge of communication and he retired in 2002 before the contract was signed. He said he had no knowledge of any irregularities attached to it.
Former Finance minister David Mwirarria, former PS Joseph Magari, former PS David Onyonka, businessmen Deepak and Rashmi Kamani have been charged with a conspiracy to defraud the government of 59,688, 250 euros.
The money was allegedly meant for a suppliers financing agreement for computerisation of a security, law and order system. They have denied the fraud that allegedly was committed between July 2003 and June 2004 in Nairobi.
