Hungry Kilifi locals stare at water crisis
Hundreds of hunger victims in Ndingiriani, Ganze constituency, will soon run out of water. The only remaining water source is drying up. More than 1,000 residents rely on the Ndingiriani Dam. However, the water levels are low. They said the amount left in the dam cannot sustain them. The water is polluted. Some youths have volunteered to camp at the dam to prevent wild animals from drinking the water. Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro, Ganze’s Peter Shehe and government officials toured the area yesterday. They said National Youth Service workers have been dispatched to drill boreholes and water pans. Kilifi county commissioner Fred Ndunga, NYS Coast regional commander Zacharia Mutua and Watamu MCA Ibrahim Matumbo also visited. Residents walk 20km to fetch the dirty water.
