Tight se­cu­rity in Lamu as KCPE be­gins

Some 2,639 stan­dard eight can­di­dates are sit­ting the KCPE exam in Lamu county. Po­lice and KDF have mounted pa­trols in Lamu East and in schools close to the Lamu-So­ma­lia bor­der. School heads lined up at the exam col­lec­tion cen­tres by 5am yes­ter­day to pick up test pa­pers. Can­di­dates at Mil­i­mani Pri­mary School have, how­ever, missed the exam, as they were not reg­is­tered fol­low­ing ram­pant in­se­cu­rity that led to the school’s clo­sure. Deputy county com­mis­sioner Stephen San­golo said se­cu­rity of­fi­cers have been de­ployed to all schools and as­sured par­ents, teach­ers and pupils of ad­e­quate pro­tec­tion. San­golo said they have put in place mea­sures to pre­vent exam cheat­ing. Some 1,361 boys and 1,278 girls are sit­ting the exam. The county has 77 exam cen­tres.
