Tight security in Lamu as KCPE begins
Some 2,639 standard eight candidates are sitting the KCPE exam in Lamu county. Police and KDF have mounted patrols in Lamu East and in schools close to the Lamu-Somalia border. School heads lined up at the exam collection centres by 5am yesterday to pick up test papers. Candidates at Milimani Primary School have, however, missed the exam, as they were not registered following rampant insecurity that led to the school’s closure. Deputy county commissioner Stephen Sangolo said security officers have been deployed to all schools and assured parents, teachers and pupils of adequate protection. Sangolo said they have put in place measures to prevent exam cheating. Some 1,361 boys and 1,278 girls are sitting the exam. The county has 77 exam centres.
