Four Chi­nese na­tion­als on Mon­day were ar­rested in Kisumu.

They were ar­rested at their Mil­i­mani res­i­dence fol­low­ing a raid in which po­lice re­cov­ered 112 gam­bling ma­chines.

They were op­er­at­ing the ma­chines with­out a work per­mit. Kisumu county com­man­der Ti­tus Yoma said po­lice acted on a tip-off.

The four are be­ing held at the Kisumu po­lice sta­tion and will be charged once a Chi­nese in­ter­preter is found. An­other 25 gam­bling ma­chines were col­lected around the town yes­ter­day dur­ing the crack­down.

The raid be­gan on Sun­day af­ter Nyal­enda B MCA last Wed­nes­day tabled a mo­tion call­ing on the au­thor­i­ties to seize the ma­chines and the own­ers.

Last week, five Chi­nese were fined Sh500,000 af­ter plead­ing guilty to work­ing in the coun­try with­out a per­mit and vi­o­lat­ing pro­vi­sions in their visas.

The five were or­dered to reg­u­larise their travel doc­u­ments within three days, oth­er­wise they would be de­ported.
