4 CHINESE IN GAMBLING RAID
Four Chinese nationals on Monday were arrested in Kisumu.
They were arrested at their Milimani residence following a raid in which police recovered 112 gambling machines.
They were operating the machines without a work permit. Kisumu county commander Titus Yoma said police acted on a tip-off.
The four are being held at the Kisumu police station and will be charged once a Chinese interpreter is found. Another 25 gambling machines were collected around the town yesterday during the crackdown.
The raid began on Sunday after Nyalenda B MCA last Wednesday tabled a motion calling on the authorities to seize the machines and the owners.
Last week, five Chinese were fined Sh500,000 after pleading guilty to working in the country without a permit and violating provisions in their visas.
The five were ordered to regularise their travel documents within three days, otherwise they would be deported.
