By-elections win by ODM are no threat to Jubilee

The Star (Kenya) - - Voices -

A few days ago, the IEBC conducted four civic by-elections in various parts of the country. Bearing in mind that we have less than 10 months to the general election, this is likely the last election the outgoing commissioners will oversee. Although the Issack Hassan-led team has handed in resignation letters, it is expected that they will leave office by mid-December after handing over to the new team. This will avoid a vacuum in the commission. In the by-elections, it was clear the affair was a two-horse race pitting Jubilee against ODM. ODM left nothing to chance. The leaders personally lead the campaigns and won three seats. They said this was a dress rehearsal for 2017. Suna MP Junet Mohamed said the victories show the time for President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto was up. I think they were too quick to think so. ODM only retained the seats, and the difference in the tally was not so huge to worry anyone.
