Sh64 mil­lion from Tea Direc­torate meant for Bomet roads in­tact, Rutto tells Le­san

Bomet Gover­nor Isaac Rutto yes­ter­day told off Se­na­tor Wil­fred Le­san fol­low­ing claims he de­lib­er­ately with­held Sh64 mil­lion from the Tea Direc­torate.

He ac­cused Rutto of plan­ning to mis­use the funds. Le­san said fail­ure to re­lease the funds to fac­to­ries months af­ter dis­burse­ment is caus­ing anx­i­ety among farm­ers. The funds were meant to re­pair roads in the tea-grow­ing zones.

But Rutto said the funds are “in­tact” and will be will used on the in­tended pur­pose.

He said on re­ceiv­ing the money, he con­vened a meet­ing with KTDA di­rec­tors from all tea fac­to­ries to agree on how the funds will be spent. Rutto said he could not or­der for the re­lease of funds with­out a clear pro­ce­dure.

Speaking to the press in Bomet, he said the funds have been in­cluded in the sup­ple­men­tary bud­get.
