Sh64 million from Tea Directorate meant for Bomet roads intact, Rutto tells Lesan
Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto yesterday told off Senator Wilfred Lesan following claims he deliberately withheld Sh64 million from the Tea Directorate.
He accused Rutto of planning to misuse the funds. Lesan said failure to release the funds to factories months after disbursement is causing anxiety among farmers. The funds were meant to repair roads in the tea-growing zones.
But Rutto said the funds are “intact” and will be will used on the intended purpose.
He said on receiving the money, he convened a meeting with KTDA directors from all tea factories to agree on how the funds will be spent. Rutto said he could not order for the release of funds without a clear procedure.
Speaking to the press in Bomet, he said the funds have been included in the supplementary budget.
