Mum of three sits KCPE in labour ward

A KCPE can­di­date in Bondo sat her exam in hospi­tal af­ter giv­ing birth just as the test be­gan coun­try­wide. Rachel Atieno, 30, reg­is­tered as a pri­vate can­di­date at Bondo Town­ship Pri­mary School. She gave birth to a baby boy on Tues­day morn­ing at Bondo Sub­county Hospi­tal. Atieno be­gan her math­e­mat­ics pa­per an hour late as she was still in labour by 8am, the official start time. “We re­ceived the pa­tient on Mon­day night. She man­aged to have a nor­mal de­liv­ery on Tues­day morn­ing. It was not pos­si­ble for her to be­gin her ex­am­i­na­tion with oth­ers at ex­actly 8am,” med­i­cal su­per­in­ten­dent Ahomo Okech said. The mother of three is a tai­lor in Bondo town. She said she is de­ter­mined to con­tinue her stud­ies af­ter drop­ping out of school two years ago. Mean­while, 10 in­mates at the Si­aya Prison sat the exam, which ended yes­ter­day.
