Joho’s taking county to the dogs – Marwa
Says county only good at biryani business
Mombasa county is being driven to the dogs and billions of shillings wasted on unproductive investments, Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa has said.
He attacked governor Hassan Joho on Friday, saying he is not a serious individual.
Although Marwa did not mention the governor by name, his comments suggested so. He also kept on referring to the county leadership, which is headed by Joho.
“We need a serious thinking mind,” Marwa said shortly after the African Peer Review Mechanism meeting at the Mombasa Beach Hotel. He blamed Joho for the lack of jobs.
“The county should tell us the number of jobs it has created. It is only good at spending on unproductive projects,” Marwa said. About 65 per cent of the youth in Mombasa are unemployed. Marwa said the county is only good at “biryani business”, which he alluded is worthless.
Biryani is an Indian dish made with highly seasoned rice and meat, fish, or vegetables. This was in reference to the plan by the county to distribute food to KCPE exam candidates. Marwa banned the project, infuriating county officials.
The regional coordinator said Mombasa administrators waste billions of shillings on international artists who add no value to the county.
He was referring to concerts held in the county including the Mombasa Rock Concert where international star Chris Brown was the guest performer.
It is estimated Brown was paid Sh90 million for a 90-minute performance.
“We should not get excited with entertainment when people are starving,” Marwa said.
