Migori ex-councillors to get send-off pay
Migori Governor Okoth Obado has said his government will allocate a send-off package worth millions of shillings to former councillors from the next supplementary budget.
Obado said he will call a meeting between Migori MCAs and the 236 former councillors to ensure when the petition is tabled in February it “passes on smoothly without any resistance”. Obado said the amount was agreed on by both teams. “Former councillors were paid peanuts, despite doing a lot of work in the then councils, which paved way to form the county governments,” he said.
Obado said Migori will join Siaya county, which will spend Sh372 million as a send-off package for 248 former councilors. In Siaya, each former councillor will receive Sh1.5 million before the end of the year and later have a Sh30,000 monthly allowance. Migori Former Councilors Forum chairman Elijah Ouma said the move was ‘God sent’.
