DISARMAMENT BUT STILL NO PEACE

The Star (Kenya) - - Counties Riftvalley -

Last month the government ordered enforced disarmament in the Kerio Valley. Rift Valley regional commissioner Wanyama Musiambu said this would restore peace. In June he announced an operation to find 50,000 illegal firearms. But still the violence rages. Last month Elgeyo Marakwet county commissioner Fredrick Ndambuki accused Marakwet professionals and local leaders of aiding banditry. “We have information professionals and leaders are facilitating the acquisition of arms. The youth are using the firearms to kill each other.”
