Chinese firm irregularly awarded Sh6.8bn tender, says Athi Water board member
An Athi Water Services Board member has said the Sh6.8 billion bulk water supply tender was irregularly awarded.
In a response to a suit filed by activist Okiya Omtata and Florence Kanyua, Bancy Njuguna yesterday said the management hired the China State Corporation and paid Sh141 million in advance to undertake a project that was not approved by Nema.
She said the award undermined the interests of the public. Njuguna said an internal audit done in June 30 showed Sh33 million was stuck in Chase Bank when it went into receivership.
She said that during the Audit, Risk and Governance Committee meeting last month, the management informed the panel only Sh1 million of the Sh33 million had been recovered. “It is irregular for the management to have kept the board in the dark,” Njuguna said.
