Attack on Rutto uncalled-for, say Kipsigis elders

The Myoot Kipsigis Council of Elders and Bomet leaders yesterday condemned the attack on Governor Isaac Rutto, saying it was uncalled for.

Mzee Bartaa arap Milgo and Chama Cha Mashinani national secretary David Sang demanded the transfer of county commissioner Bernard Leparmarai for taking the matter casually. They said his statement about the issue depicted a failed system and he cannot be entrusted with leadership.

“We’re shocked to hear the county commissioner utter such a reckless statement to the effect that a stone hit the governor, yet we all know it was a teargas canister hurled at him,” he said.

Leparmarai defended police, saying the situation would have been worse were it not for their presence in Silibwet Stadium. He dismissed as fictitious reports that police threw teargas canisters at Rutto.
