Busia and pipeline firm to develop oil depot in Matayos
The Busia county government and the Kenya Pipeline Company will partner to develop an oil depot in Mundika or Matayos.
Energy executive Bernard Yaite said the partnership would reduce crowding in the border town and improve traffic flow.
Yaite spoke to the Star yesterday after he met a team from KPC and CAS Consultants Ltd. He said the pipeline company would develop an oil depot in Busia, based on a feasibility study.
He said the consultants are on the ground collecting data. Yaite said a report on the feasibility study would be ready by February.
The executive said KPC would devolve its pipeline network to the Western region to improve services in the rural areas.
CAS Consultants Ltd will also undertake a hydrological study and submit findings to Busia county.
The executive said the county would provide land for the project and look for an investor to develop the depot. KPC will avail pipelines and undertake operations.
