Bu­sia and pipe­line firm to de­velop oil de­pot in Matayos

The Bu­sia county govern­ment and the Kenya Pipe­line Com­pany will part­ner to de­velop an oil de­pot in Mundika or Matayos.

En­ergy ex­ec­u­tive Bernard Yaite said the part­ner­ship would re­duce crowd­ing in the bor­der town and im­prove traf­fic flow.

Yaite spoke to the Star yes­ter­day af­ter he met a team from KPC and CAS Con­sul­tants Ltd. He said the pipe­line com­pany would de­velop an oil de­pot in Bu­sia, based on a fea­si­bil­ity study.

He said the con­sul­tants are on the ground col­lect­ing data. Yaite said a re­port on the fea­si­bil­ity study would be ready by Fe­bru­ary.

The ex­ec­u­tive said KPC would de­volve its pipe­line network to the West­ern re­gion to im­prove services in the ru­ral ar­eas.

CAS Con­sul­tants Ltd will also un­der­take a hy­dro­log­i­cal study and sub­mit find­ings to Bu­sia county.

The ex­ec­u­tive said the county would pro­vide land for the project and look for an in­vestor to de­velop the de­pot. KPC will avail pipe­lines and un­der­take op­er­a­tions.
