The Water ministry yesterday distributed water to more than 1,500 residents of Gowa on the outskirts of Kwale town. Wells and boreholes have dried up because of drought. Woman representative Zainab Chidzuga invited the residents to fetch water from her home.

“As you can see, residents are camping here to get water because the drought has hurt them. All water sources have dried up,” Chidzuga said. The government has dispatched several bowsers to Lungalunga, Kinango and Matuga.

Chidzuga praised the Kwale International Sugar Company and the Kwale Water Company for providing bowsers. She also thanked Base Titanium and the Kwale Youth Forum for providing relief food to residents. Chidzuga urged the county to find a permanent solution to water shortage.
