HUGE PROJECT IS CRITICISED
The Lamu coal plant is to be set up on 985 acres and is to generate 981.5MW of electricity. Initially, it is expected to burn coal imported from South Africa and later coal from Kenya’s Mui Basin in Kitui county. The project will employ 1,400 Chinese workers, as well as many locals. The EIA report led to the resignation of Trade executive Samia Omar who said the project is harmful.
