Pastor held, chief summoned over Olmelil violence
A chief in Trans Mara West subcounty has been summoned by police and two people arrested in connection with clashes at Olmelil on the border of Narok and Kisii counties.
Trans Mara West OCPD Alfred Muthua told the Star that Kapune assistant chief Richard Korgoren has been ordered to explain why he allowed stolen cattle to be herded through his sublocation.
“We have also arrested a pastor at the Olmelil Church of God and a woman who met with the chief at the cleric’s home for unspecified reasons on Sunday morning. [This was] before clashes started after the same woman raised the alarm when she saw people from the neighbouring community pursuing stolen cattle,” he said.
Members of the Kipsigis community on Saturday stole three cows from their Kisii neighbours. Kisii youths gave chase, leading to a confrontation that led to one death and injuries to eight people.
