Arsenal’s Bellerin pulls out of Spain Under 21s squad
BY ADAM CRAFTON/ Hector Bellerin has withdrawn from Spain’s Under 21s squad, giving Arsenal another injury scare over the international break.
Bellerin was to be assessed by Arsenal’s medical staff on Thursday after suffering a recurrence of an ankle injury.
The 21-year-old suffered a kick to the ankle by Tottenham’s Danny Rose during the North London derby on Sunday but he was hopeful the problem would resolve itself as he trained with the Spanish U21 squad this week.
However, the pain in the ankle has persisted and he has returned home to London.
Sources close to the player are hopeful that he it is only a minor problem and that Bellerin should not miss any action for Arsenal but medical tests on Thursday will shed further light on the issue.
The Gunners have already suffered one injury blow over the break. Forward Alexis Sanchez suffered a ‘low-grade muscle tear’ during a training session with his nation Chile. The 27-year-old has since said he would be available for next week’s game against Uruguay.
Bellerin was left out of Arsenal’s Champions League squad to face Ludogorets last week with Arsene Wenger concerned about his fitness.
However, he went on to play in the north London derby against Tottenham, assuaging those fears, and even managed to complete the full 90 minutes.
A photo uploaded by Bellerin to his Snapchat account on Wednesday morning hinted at another injury.
