Kitui not facing a cash crunch, pays salaries – official

The Star (Kenya) - - Counties Eastern/northeastern - MALICIOUS REPORT?

The Kitui government has denied claims it faces a financial crunch and has delayed payment of salaries for three months.

Head of communications Munyasya Musya circulated an email to journalists denying the Standard newspaper report that appeared on Tuesday last week.

He termed the report “wild, baseless, malicious and devoid of professionalism”.

“Such claims should not come from a leading newspaper in Kenya that is supposed to uphold professionalism and the cardinal principles of journalism – truth, accuracy, fairness and objectivity,” Musya said.

He said the Kitui government has demanded a retraction of the article and subsequent publication of an “unequivocal apology”.

“In clearly false assertions, the report claims that a showdown looms between the county government and its employees. This is clearly aimed at pitting the county government employees against their employer through the creation of unnecessary anxiety and projection of nonexistent unrest,” Musya said. He said the county pays salaries on time.
