Kenya seeks new market for cof­fee ex­ports in Es­to­nia

Kenya is look­ing to ex­pand its cof­fee ex­ports to Es­to­nia. Trade be­tween the two coun­tries stood at an es­ti­mated Sh1.83 bil­lion ($18 mil­lion) in 2015, with ex­ports to the north­ern Europe na­tion at Sh140 mil­lion ($1.38 mil­lion) against im­ports of Sh1.69 bil­lion ($16.57 mil­lion). Cof­fee, Kenya’s third ma­jor ex­port, posted a 30 per cent in­crease in pro­duc­tion, which saw the earn­ings rise to Sh21 bil­lion in 2015. “In Es­to­nia, cof­fee sec­tor is very lu­cra­tive. Cof­fee drink­ing is very pop­u­lar in Es­to­nia, es­pe­cially as the life­styles of Es­to­nian con­sumers are busy and the in­vig­o­rat­ing ef­fect of cof­fee is ap­pre­ci­ated,” said Kenya National Cham­ber of Com­merce and In­dus­try chief ex­ec­u­tive Matanda Wabuyele dur­ing the Kenya-Es­to­nia Busi­ness Fo­rum in Nairobi yes­ter­day.
