Residents torch lorry after accident, protesting illegal sand harvesting
A lorry belonging to illegal sand harvesters was on Sunday torched by angry residents at Kwa-Mulu village, Nzaui subcounty, in Makueni.
Nzaui police boss Alex Ndung’u said the lorry was burnt by the residents after the driver hit a county government vehicle injuring the driver and a passenger.
“The lorry was intercepted by county askaris. It was ferrying sand from Muooni River then the driver hit the vehicle on the driver’s side injuring him and a passenger,” Ndung’u said.
During the morning confrontation, two loaders who were armed with bows and arrows were arrested.The injured were treated at the Sultan Hamud Subcounty Hospital and discharged.
