Kioko, Kinyajui picked for Betway West Ham tour
When Mark Kioko and Moses Kinyanjui took up the Betway Talent Search trials at Goan Institute in Pangani, little did they know that they were knocking on the doors to a life-time trip to a West Ham United experience.
From the initial 1600 players, the coaches came up with 16, then they had to pick two after a friendly between the elite players and KPL side, Mathare United that ended 2-1 for the latter.
Mathare United coach Francis Kimanzi, West Ham United coaches and a representative from the Betting and Licensing Board had the responsibility of arriving at the final two players. Kinyanjui, a Bandari Youth team player, and Kioko, a goalkeeper for Githurai Kimbo and Kibera Black Stars, will join the West Ham Youth side in London for training come early next year.
Kinyanjui, an attacking midfielder, was noted for his precision and play-making skills despite having a challenge in raising the fare travel to the camp at Pangani.
“Initially, I didnt have fare to come to Nairobi for the camp, but fortunately, I got it at the last minute through the generous sacrifice of my parents. I dedicate this to them,” said Kinyanjui.
Kioko on the other hand, was lauded for his exceptional skill at the goal. Both upcoming stars expressed optimism that the trip to the United Kingdom would be a game changer for their careers.
