NYANZA MATATU OWN­ERS SAID THEY LOSE SH72 MIL­LION

Last month, matatu op­er­a­tors in Nyanza threat­ened to hold protests against the high num­ber of road­blocks. Op­er­a­tors term the road­blocks as “cor­rup­tion hotspots’. They urged IG Joseph Boin­net to en­sure po­lice uni­forms do not have pock­ets to curb cor­rup­tion. Matatu Own­ers As­so­ci­a­tion chair­per­son Bob An­dala said there are road­blocks at least ev­ery five kilo­me­tres in Nyanza. He said they part with at least Sh100 at ev­ery road­block.“We lose as much as Sh72 mil­lion monthly on one route,” he said.
