Nairobi-DoD land dispute highlights crisis of grabbing
The dispute between the Nairobi city county and the Department of Defence over controversial ownership of 5,000 acres in Kayole came to the fore during the Land Summit at State House on Monday. This is obviously a dispute between two levels of government. Governor Evans Kidero demanded to know what action the ministry of Lands and the National Land Commission were taking to ensure t the land reverts to the county. This dispute is but a manifestation of the many land disputes and cases of grabbing. Now that it is clear it has escalated to publicly owned properties, it calls for stern measures to end this problem once and for all. It has been protracted since our Independence. It is wrong for genuine land owners to waste their time, money and energy fighting goons and cartels that invade their properties whilst those mandated to protect private and public property are nowhere to be seen.
