Laikipia elders, led by Munyiri Mutitu, have said they will support Senator GG Kariuki in his reelection bid. “He is one of our elders. We have supported him for a long time. We will support him in his bid to develop Laikipia to higher standards,” he said. Political analyst Martin Waichungo said Kariuki’s announcement he will seek reelection is likely to be a game changer in Laikipia politics because the senator has a huge following, especially among the elderly. “He has all along been a respected politician in the region and he has the financial muscle to campaign. It is, therefore, up to other candidates to change their political tactics,” he said. In June, businessman Simon Mithamo said Kariuki should retire from politics and become an adviser. Mithamo, who is eyeing the senator seat, said Kariuki has been in politics since first President Jomo Kenyatta’s rule.
