Bungoma cleric wants troops to remain in S Sudan

The Star (Kenya) - - Counties -

A cleric in Bungoma has backed calls by opposition leader Raila Odinga that the state reconsider the move to withdraw Kenyan troops from South Sudan. ACK Bishop George Mechumo (pictured) said Kenya should be a good neighbour and help in restoring peace in South Sudan. On November 2, Kenya announced it would immediately withdraw more than 1,000 troops from the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan. This was triggered by the sacking of the Kenyan UN force commander Johnson Ondieki over what the UN called failure to come to the aid of nearby civilians under attack.
