Kiambu real estate tycoon David Ngari, popularly known as Gakuyo, has launched his bid to run for governor, bringing to five the number of aspirants.

Incumbent William Kabogo will run for reelection. Others in the contest are Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu, engineer Gakuru Kanyanja and Njoki Gathendu.

Kiambu needs a moral, development-conscious leader who can efficiently manage resources, he said on Wednesday at Kigwa conference centre.

Gakuyo said residents have complained about high levies and licence fees and the county taking too long to approve building plans.

“It is time to change and have a good manager, who has been tested through his work, to lead the county,” he said.
