1960: Born in Nyamira in the then Kisii dis­trict.

1970-1976: At­tended Nyamira Pri­mary School.

1977-1980: Stud­ied at Kisii High School. He holds a bach­e­lor’s de­gree in peace and con­flict stud­ies from the African Nazarene Univer­sity. He is also a grad­u­ate the War Col­lege in China, and of the Com­mand and Staff Col­lege in the United States.

2003: Com­mand­ing of­fi­cer of the 10th Kenya Army Bat­tal­ion dur­ing the United Na­tions Mis­sion in Sierra Leone; op­er­at­ing from a re­gion called Masi­aka.

2010: Sec­tor Com­man­der-United Na­tions Mis­sion in Su­dan from 2010 to 2011.

2011: Land Forces Com­po­nent Com­man­der of the Kenya De­fence Forces Op­er­a­tions, served un­til 2012. He was in com­mand when KDF cap­tured Af­madow in May 2012. He was a bri­gadier at a Dob­ley-based sec­tor that co­or­di­nated the op­er­a­tion.

2012: Gen­eral Of­fi­cer Com­mand­ing West­ern Com­mand, Kenya Army, un­til 2013.

2013: Deputy Army Chief of StaffCom­mand and Con­trol Kenya De­fence Forces.

2016: Force Com­man­der of the United Na­tions Mis­sion in South Su­dan (UNMISS) from which he was sacked in October.
