‘JUDICIARY IS INDEPENDENT’
The Judicial Service Commission has protested against the capping of paid sitting allowances. In an affidavit, judiciary registrar Anne Amadi said the SRC can only set remuneration for the JSC but cannot set the number of paid sittings they have. “The SRC can only review benefits of state officers but not independent constitutional offices,” she said. Amadi said it is wrong for the SRC to base their argument on the fact that JSC commissioners hold other public positions which enable them to earn double salaries.
