GOVERNOR CALLED FOR HELP
Governor Nathif Jama in October declared the drought a disaster and called for urgent help. “The [national] government has all the machinery to mitigate the current crisis. But it’s like they are waiting for the emergency level, when many livestock and human lives are lost,” he said. Jama said his administration had distributed at least 100 tonnes of relief aid to Ijara and Hulugho subcounties, but added that more food was needed. Later that month the National Drought Management Authority set up camp in Garissa.
