Parents in Kisumu have to fork out Sh3,000 to Sh18,000 to enrol their children in standard one. Parent Zachary Otieno said he was charged Sh3,000 to enrol his son at Kosawo Primary School.

“I thought I would pay Sh500. Sh3,000 is too much. If I pay that amount in standard one, how much will I pay when he reaches standard eight?” he asked.

Kenyans have taken to Twitter with #Class1Wizi and demanded interdiction of head teachers.
