2015: “The failure to implement the Insurance Act costs Kenya over Sh25 billion in losses annually to foreign insurance companies. We in the Maritime Affairs and Shipping department will not sit back and watch when this colossal amount of foreign exchange, which rightfully belongs to Kenyan insurance companies, goes to foreigners.”

2016: “There is a dire shortage of maritime skills in the country. While the Kenya Maritime Authority introduced an aggressive surveyor training programe in 2007, much more still needs to be done. There is a need for qualified technical personnel to support port operations that take place on a 24hour basis. We need to set up a fully equipped national maritime college where qualified Kenyans can get training through sponsorship. There is a lot of potential in the ship, boat-building and repair industry, which our local businesspeople can exploit. We shall implement the directive to ensure that all import cargo is insured by local firms with a view to hasten growth in the local insurance industry.”
