Mombasa governor on the spot for operating 4 revenue collection accounts
In the damning revelations, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is on the spot for operating four parallel revenue collection accounts.
Two accounts at KCB, one at National Bank of Kenya and another at Cooperative Bank.
The county is also accused of running 22 “illegal” bank accounts, including those for the defunct local authorities, with balances of Sh193.7 million. “In the circumstances, the validity, accuracy and completeness of the balances amounting to Sh299 million as at June 30 last year could not be ascertained,” the report says.
The county is accused of failing to bank Sh165 million collected between January and June 2015 into the county revenue fund. The law requires each county treasury to ensure all monies are deposited into the revenue account.
